Bringing Pedro Home

Their journey began on Monday September 28, 2009.

Emily, Pedro, and their 3 year old son Logan walked out of their house to run errands when a white van pulled up, two agents jumped out, and Pedro was arrested by ICE agents. His life in the United States began at the age of eight when he was brought from Guatemala by his mother. Pedro has being held in a detention facility in Stewart, Georgia for the majority of the last year and today, which today marks 596 days in captivity.

More about their history and fight for justice can be found on Emily's website Bring Pedro Home. Today marks the day when their case was finally heard by an immigration judge that granted Pedro relief under the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA). He doesn't get to come home today but the day is drawing ever closer. In three days it will be Pedro's 31st birthday and their 8th wedding anniversary. Tonight, for the first time in a very long time, Logan can go to sleep at night and look forward to the day when his daddy will get to play with him and Emily can look forward to the day when her husband will be free to stand by her side and support and love her. Today was a beautiful day for the Guzman family.

In another part of our world, a Mississippi immigration raid netted 100+ more immigrants at a cost of $200 per day to feed and house them in our privatized detention centers, $20,000 a day for the taxpayers to add to the growing deficit. No biggie, right? I'm sure those 100 hard working people used far less than $20,000 in public resources but it's all worth it in the long run to our paranoid society. They're taking our jobs??!! Please, take mine! In Missouri, another husband is detained while his American wife sits at home with five children (soon to be 6, 4, 2 and 8 mos old twins) and tries to be strong in front of them. When will this hatred end?
